Benz, our ranger, tracker and guide, found these three lions beside the road. About 1/4 of a mile to the right of the screen was a herd of about 50 to 100 impala. The three lions included two females, one pregnant, and a male. The female not pregnant and the male were estimated to be between two and three years old.
The lions later stalked the impala but missed on the attack. Benz and two other rangers moved the vehicles beyond the impala and the lions. After locating the impala after dark, we waited for the lions. Upon hearing the lion attack, Benz drove directly through the bush to the location of the attack. The passengers were teated to serious "4 wheeling" through the trees.
The lions consume the impala quickly to prevent a mature male from taking their prey. Each lion is trying to take part or all of the impala so they can eat without competition. If you have any questions about the strength of the lion's jaw, listen to the bones cracking and crushing.
